Aston Villa manager Unai Emery insists Saturday’s 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest was a “huge” three points.

Talking about the first half performance, “We started with possession. They played tactically, defended in the middle to low range, and we started with possession because they didn’t press high. We created chances and we scored.”

On playing in the Champions League: “We will play two games, the first in Paris and then back here. Of course we will prepare for these two games, but they will be completely different to the game we played today.”
On rotation and depth of squad: “We did that with Preston too. It’s very important to manage the players we have. We prioritise the players we have. Hopefully Leon Bailey will be available for Paris.”
Unai Emery has always been a manager who dreams big.
“My dream is to win the Champions League,” he told Aston Villa fans after guiding them back into Europe in 2023. The notion of Villa helping him achieve that would have, then, been almost laughable.
Now, after his side beat third-placed Nottingham Forest 2-1 in the Premier League for a seventh consecutive win in all competitions, the Spanish manager has got the whole club dreaming big with him.
The victory moves Aston Villa level on points with fifth-placed Manchester City and in with a chance of qualifying for the Champions League – via their league position – for the second successive season.
